About the Artist
Riverhead local Clayton Orehek has been specializing in neon and metal craftwork both artistically and commercially for over thirty years. His notable pieces include the ‘Sag Harbor’ Cinema sign (2005, 2017), ‘Neon Butterfly Chairs’ as seen in the Illuminators show (OK Harris Gallery, New York City, 2013), ’Nikola Tesla’ as seen in the Energy: The Power of Art show (Nassau Museum of Art, 2019), and several public art installations in Grangebel Park (Riverhead, 2018-present). Clayton’s work is inspired by shape, time, and light, with craftsmanship being paramount in his artistic expression. “I believe in being a virtuoso in a craft before I can be fully expressive,” says Clayton, “It’s the only way abstract ideas can be engineered into universal pieces.”
