Julianna Kirk

“I am attracted to overall designs and techniques in glass.  Something catches my eye: a shape, a form, a color. I sit and draw it out in a series of possibilities, just like many other artists. When it all gels, I just know it. It is always exciting to venture into a new concentration in jewelry.  My pendants are unique. The colors of glass along with my painting and inclusions within the layers are what makes them special.  I am always moving forward with ideas, techniques and execution. I rely on my sense of what is attractive on a person and what will make others stop and notice.“

Julianna is a retired art teacher who has been exhibiting her work for thirty years. She began working with glass in 1985, eventually focusing on fused glass as her primary medium. Along with her gallery shows and exhibitions in the tri-state area, Julianna has expanded from gallery pieces into making a line of fused glass jewelry pieces for ten years.  All her work is hand made from sketch to final product. There are multiple firings for most and no two are exactly alike, a quality of art made by hand. Many are painted and may include gold leaf work encased in the glass layers or detail work with paints, lusters or powders. The originality of the designs is what keeps her work unique. They are all made with care and fine craftsmanship. Along with her glass art, she continues to create with other materials as well.

She continues teaching what she loves and is on the faculty at Gallery North, Bayard Cutting Arboretum and BOCES Arts-In-Education program in Suffolk County. She participates in demos and workshops for associations who seek her out. She is the glass media chair for the Long Island Craft Guild and a member of Women Sharing Art in Sayville. Her work can be seen at Gallery North in Setauket, North Fork Craft Gallery in Wading River, and East End Arts Council in Riverhead. She resides in Brookhaven Hamlet.
