"I had studied with Master Calligrapher Don Kunz back in the 1980’s when I attended The Cooper Union School of Art and was drawn to this art form. For the past 20 years I grew my business Pen & Paper - specializing in calligraphy and design of custom wedding and event stationery. I enjoyed the creative process and working with clients to create tangible memories of special moments in their lives. I enjoyed bringing to life the written word in calligraphic form. Over the past few years, however, there had been a gentle stirring from within of wanting to explore other creative outlets, especially painting. When the event industry came to an abrupt halt I used the time to make some changes to my studio space and to become open to a new energy flow. I found myself being drawn to paint on reclaimed wooden doors and shutters from old building structures. There is something about a process of restoration and transformation that I envision in each piece – as though they have an essence and a story to tell. Much of my painted subject matter happens to be of dogs. To me, they represent unconditional love. I could watch dog rescue and transformation videos all day long. Playful dog videos are even better! I am reminded through them that unconditional love can change anyone and any situation. As an eternal optimist I believe that the world is intrinsically good and capable of this love. There is nothing that gives me greater satisfaction than capturing that spirit in any of my subjects. I work in various mediums – oil paintings, watercolors, drawings and calligraphy. I am still able to offer beautiful tangible memories, yet not only in the form of the written word. Now it can be in the form of a portrait of a loved one, or pet, or home. Even better than capturing the soul of a subject is knowing that someone else may experience and cherish it for years to come." - Linda Pasca
