Artist Statement
For many years I owned a business where I specialized in calligraphy and graphic design. I have always been inspired by lettering, typography and structure. I also had a deep inner stirring to pick up a paint brush again and paint in an expressive and spiritual way. My work tends to be reflective of the relationship between structure and expression. As I continue to develop as an artist, I find that there is so much joy in exploring this duality within myself. My hope is that my work evokes celebration, peace, and a simplicity of spirit.
Artist Bio
In the mid-1980’s I attended art school at The Cooper Union School of Art where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I studied with Master Calligrapher Don Kunz during that time and was inspired by the art form. I went on to create Pen & Paper, a company that specialized in calligraphy and design of custom wedding and event stationery. I enjoyed the creative process and working with clients to create beautiful, tangible memories of special moments in their lives.
Over the past few years, however, there had been a gentle stirring from within of wanting to pick up a paint brush again and become a little more in tune with my spirit. When the event industry came to an abrupt halt, I used the time to make some changes to my studio space and to become open to a new energy flow. I have a simple spiritual practice and spend much time in nature. My work is a celebration of that spiritual journey. It embraces both my fascination with structure as well as the connection to other life forms and realms.
