This painting emerged from a dream I had.
In the dream I was on a job interview with an older couple. The woman was Jewish. I could feel their love for me. I believe I was going to be her personal assistant. At first I thought it might have been my mom and dad but realized that it may have been Natalie, my Grandmother, who was Jewish. So I believe it was my grandparents in the dream. They were always so supportive and encouraging of me and my art growing up. That was similar to the feeling in the dream. In terms of me being her personal assistant I had promised her when she was alive that she needn’t worry – I would care for her son my Dad.
In the dream the man (Papa) slams both hands on the table and exclaims “11,000 dollars!” which is how much I would make and he seemed so excited by that. In numerology, the number 11 is an awesome number. It signifies mastery, embodiment, enlightenment and capacity to achieve. It is inspring, artistic and spiritual.
In the dream I buy a new pair of pants to start my job. They are fabulous oversized red pants with yellow flowers on them. I don’t ever wear red so this is bold for me. I feel awesome in them.
The Mystical Magical Marvelous World of Dreams by Wilda B. Tanner – Red pants might signify equality of the sexes – feminine independence and power – freedom and capability. Yellow flowers signify beautiful loving thoughts. Red is the color of the root chakra in our body’s energy system and is located in the legs - grounding us to the earth, family and our ancestors.
- My inspiration for her stance comes from an Erte statue I have of a goddess woman.
- The purple in the sky is the crown chakra color – connection to the divine
- The blue shapes in the foreground and faint ones in the background are ancestors – supporting the woman
- The yellow in her torso is the solar plexus chakra color – personal power, confidence, self esteem
- The subtle movement of energy in her pelvis is creativity, reproduction, perhaps a baby (birth)
- All the red could also depict menstruation – life blood
- From a distance the legs look like tree trunks – rooted
- From a distance the legs look like thumb and forefinger mudra (hindu symbolic hand gesture – chin mudra is consciousness and wisdom. The forefinger represents self and the thumb represents consciousness so it is the connection of the two.)
