Born in Bryn Mawr and raised in West Chester Pennsylvania, Monica Nask studied at the Rhode Island School of Design where she earned her BFA. While a designer for large apparel companies in NYC she continued her studies at the School of Visual Art and the New York Academy of Art. There she was able to meet and study with some great painters. After 20 years in New York, she now lives on the Jersey coast. Exhibiting throughout the tri state area, Monica was also invited to participate in the “35 x 35 Project” in Athens, Greece and Princeton University’s Graduate Health Initiative “Unique Minds: Creative Voices”. Her work is collected locally and abroad. Inspired by her surroundings Monica creates work that speaks to the human spirit. She pushes the boundaries between realism and abstraction in her landscape paintings. Monica uses palette knives to layer and scrape away paint on the canvas to create broad fields of color. The work is then recognizable as a landscape while allowing the viewer to travel in their own imagination.
